Artist Membership

If you are a working artist who lives within a 60-mile radius of the Gallery and are looking for a gallery to exhibit your work and wish to join a unique community, Blue Morning Gallery invites you to submit your work for consideration.  Applicants are considered and reviewed by the gallery’s jury committee.  For more information, contact our Membership Coordinator or ask for a Membership Application available at the gallery.

Membership in Blue Morning Gallery is a privilege and as such, comes with certain expectations and responsibilities.  This is a great place to sell your work, but members must never forget that they are the ones expected to keep the gallery running.
 

Artist Membership Benefits

  • Your art will be displayed in a professional setting.
  • Your art will be promoted via advertisements and news releases for the gallery.
  • You will be able to interact with other artists and the art-buying public.
  • Opportunities for additional venues to show your work.
  • Artist listing on Blue Morning Gallery’s website and Facebook site.
  • Cash, checks and credit cards accepted for sales.
  • Blue Morning Gallery takes care of all credit card fees for gallery sales, as well as sales tax reporting to the state of Florida.
  • Eligibility to be a Featured Artist.
  • You will have a business address and phone number.

 

Points to Consider Before Becoming a Member of Blue Morning Gallery

Definition of Blue Morning Gallery

  • Blue Morning Gallery is an artist owned and operated RETAIL art gallery.  It is NOT a museum or a Consignment Gallery.
  • Membership in Blue Morning Gallery is a privilege and as such, comes with certain expectations and responsibilities.  This is a great place to sell your work, but members must never forget that they are the ones expected to keep the gallery running.
  • Members of Blue Morning Gallery are bestowed voting rights which relate to and/or govern the operation of the Corporation/Gallery.  No other considerations are included in this membership.

Artist Services & Requirements

  • During the Term, the Company may engage the Contractor to provide the following services as needed (the “Services”), or other such services as mutually agreed upon in writing by the Parties.
  • If invited to join, the artist will submit a one-time $50 membership processing fee, dues for your first month space rental, and $20 for an annual fee which goes to the funding of a Scholarship in the name of Blue Morning Gallery for a deserving student in the Visual Arts Department at the University of West Florida.
  • Blue Morning Gallery is also active in many community events, as well as staging many events of its own.  As such, each member is expected to actively participate in the running and operation of the Gallery and events.
  • In order to keep their membership active, members MUST either serve on the Board of Directors, as a member of a sub-committee, or commit to a specific job as detailed in the Jobs for Members List.
  • All newly invited artists will receive a performance review after 90 days of membership.  If a newly invited artist receives a poor performance review, an immediate termination of this agreement is possible.
  • Applicants are aware that the work requirement for membership BEGINS at 10.5 hours per month of desk duty, plus participation in monthly Gallery Night and other Special Events.
  • Members are required to attend the bi-monthly Members Business Meetings held on the fourth Monday at 5:30pm in January, March, May, July, September, and November.
  • Members are solely responsible for the scheduling of their work shifts.  Of course, we understand life happens and the need to reschedule a work shift may be necessary.  Again, members are solely responsible for rescheduling of a work shift.
  • In the event of shift changes, members MUST inform the Staffing Director of any and all changes in work schedules in advance.
  • All Sales for a member during a calendar month will be paid after the first part of the following month, excluding a 15% commission taken by the Gallery.

 

Becoming an Artist Member

  • Because of the serious commitment required to become a member, only applicants living within a 60 mile radius of Pensacola will be considered for membership.
  • Fill out an Artist Membership Application.
  • Submit five to ten color photographs of your current work and provide three pieces of original artwork in a media subcategory, ready for gallery display.  All work must be original.  Identify each photograph with your name, the title, medium, and retail price of the work.
  • Applying artists are allowed to jury into one medium at a time.
  • A current resume, three references, and an artist’s statement.
  • Submit a $35.00 non-refundable screening fee.
  • Following preliminary screening, you will be contacted and given a deadline to submit your work for jurying.  If you are successful in the jurying process, you will then be scheduled for an interview with a member of the Gallery’s Board of Directors to explain the responsibilities of membership in Blue Morning Gallery.

 

Artist Membership Requirements

  • If invited to join, the artist will submit a one-time $50 membership processing fee, dues for your first month space rental, and $20 for an annual fee which goes to the funding of a Scholarship in the name of Blue Morning Gallery for a deserving student in the Visual Arts Department at the University of West Florida.
  • Monthly space dues of $45 per space.
  • There will be a 15% commission on sales.
  • Manage the Gallery for 3 shifts per month (1 shift = 3.5 hours) for each space you occupy.
  • Members are expected to be active in one or more committees as needed.
  • Attend bi-monthly member meetings to keep up-to-date on gallery business.
