Garrett, Cynthia

My art journey began in the 70s in Mr. Bitner’s high school art class – mostly oil painting. I loved it. Then came marriage, children, etc. Fast forward fifty years. With plenty of time on my hands I began watercolor painting after watching hours of YouTube videos. I was obsessed watching the way the colors flowed to create nature on paper. Two years later, I discovered pastel painting – wow! The vivid pigment a little stick holds is magical. I put my paintbrushes away and began creating with my hands. Using your fingers to blend the pastel colors is so satisfying and exciting. My favorite subjects are nature – the sand dunes of Perdido Key; marshland along the Gulf Coast, or flowers in a neighbor’s garden. I hope my art inspires someone to slow down and absorb the beauty of God’s earth.
