“Creating art has enabled me to process traumas and release self-judgement and move me towards joy, courage, compassion and hope. My wall mounted clay series of people jumping into the water represent leaving fear behind and jumping towards joy. My ‘Familiar Strangers’ series is about looking beyond the superficial. It’s about having empathy for others and our own inner child.”
Lou Mitchell Courtney has experience with many art mediums and techniques in various scales- painting miniatures as well as backdrops for theatre, designing and sculpting originals for cast furniture and accessories, sculpting and casting her small figurative bronzes. Most recently she sculpts in clay and enjoys painting the flowers in her garden.
