Joan Overton is a local artist living in Pensacola, Florida. She began
studying painting in 2011 and works primarily with acrylic paint, pastels,
pencil, and collage. Most of Joan’s work reflects the abstraction of
objects and figures, or is non-representational, allowing the observer to
conclude what they see and feel. About her time spent making art, she
says “I paint because it’s fun. It places me squarely in the moment. I
don’t always know where I’m heading when I start a piece, but I find it
exciting to bring a piece to life using composition, color, shape, and
texture.” Since 2011 Joan has studied with many talented local and
national artists. She is a past member of the Board of Directors at Artel
Gallery, a current member of the Pensacola Art Study Club, and
participates in juried exhibitions at Artel Gallery, First City Art Center, and Luna Fine Art Gallery at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach.
