This month’s featured exhibition brings together four artists whose work couldn’t be more different, yet somehow feels perfectly at home together.
Jan Kurtz continues to evolve her artistic practice through richly layered collage, creating decorative papers by hand before transforming them into expressive compositions. Her jewelry has grown right alongside her paintings, now featuring hand formed bronze paired with colorful glass mosaics that feel both contemporary and timeless.
Brenda Wood approaches gourds with a wonderful sense of humor. Birds, turtles, bees, and other delightful characters appear in her whimsical creations and wood burned pieces, often mounted onto handcrafted “Gourd Boards.” They’re the kind of artwork that makes people smile before they even realize it.
Elaine Woodward invites viewers into dreamlike landscapes where watercolor, oil, and pastel blur the line between imagination and memory. She also waxes her watercolors, eliminating the need for mats and glass, and often builds custom frames that become part of the artwork itself.
Dannis Young uncovers hidden beauty through woodturning, specializing in striking spalted wood. Every cut into a log reveals patterns that have never existed before and will never exist again. Each vessel is truly one of one, shaped by both nature and craftsmanship.
Together, these four artists remind us there is no single way to make art, and no single way to experience it.
