Your eye starts noticing things it might otherwise miss: the angle of a shadow, the curve of a line, the grain of a surface, a fleeting expression, or the geometry hidden inside an ordinary scene.
MONOCHROME brings together three Pensacola-area photographers with distinctly different ways of seeing the world, connected by their exploration of light, shadow, form, texture, and perspective.
David Schulz has called Gulf Breeze home for more than 30 years. A graphic designer by trade, David brings a designer’s eye to photography, seeking unusual perspectives, shapes, compositions, and details that pull the viewer into an image.
Joshua Carlson has been making photographs for more than 20 years. Often wandering the natural areas around Pensacola alone, he looks for the moment when something ordinary suddenly demands a second look. His process is deliberate and deeply personal, using photography as a way to explore patterns, light, shadow, and what he calls “a way of seeing.”
Jeffery Tremmel first discovered photography in a high school darkroom, developing and printing his own black-and-white film. That early fascination never left. Today he works in both film and digital photography and still develops his own black-and-white film, drawn to the way monochrome reduces an image to its essentials: light, shadow, texture, form, and composition.
